Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 250/100-Tr VE.Can 250V 100A Charge Controller

Wire your panels in strings of up to 250 Volts with Victron’s SmartSolar MPPT 250/100-Tr VE.Can charge controller; the charging capacity is 100 Amps. The auto-select feature will recognize the nominal voltage of your battery bank – 12V, 24V, 36V, or 48V. The SmartSolar 250V charge controllers accommodate solar arrays from 1,000W to 5,800W depending on the battery’s voltage; see the table below for the PV capacity of the different 250V models.

The SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers come with eight preprogrammed charging configurations. Still, the charging settings of the controller are fully programable, making it compatible with virtually any battery chemistry (lead-acid, lithium, and others). 

Load the VictronConnect app on your mobile phone or tablet to remotely control and configure your SmartSolar controller over Bluetooth. The app allows device setup, management, and performance data such as battery voltage, battery current, PV voltage, PV current, and historical data. Up to 10 SmartSolar controllers can be synchronized via Bluetooth. 

About Victron SmartSolar VE.Can Charge Controllers

Victron’s VE.Can SmartSolar charge controllers feature CAN Bus ports for simple communication between controllers in the same PV array and GX devices in the system. Up to 25 SmartSolar controllers can be interconnected via their VE.Can ports to synchronize their charging stages.

VE.Can models come with a pair of RJ45 Terminators. They have a resistor to reduce the internal reflection signal and the noise to the Bus, especially when multiple VE.Can devices are connected in a string. Connect one Terminator on the last VE.Can device (SmartSolar controller) in the string and the second Terminator on your GX device (i.e., Cerbo GX). 

Other Features of Victron’s SmartSolar Charge Controllers

Most MPPT charge controllers operate at a single maximum power point (MPP). Victron’s SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers can operate at two or more MPPs facilitating optimal solar battery charging under partial shading and cloudy days.  The flexible charging algorithm of the SmartSolar MPPT controllers offers power derating for optimum operation in hot climates. The controller does not have a cooling fan; it mounts on a robust heatsink providing natural convection cooling and over-temperature protection. It also has PV short circuit protection, PV reverse polarity protection, and PV reverse current protection. 

A feature of Victron’s SmarSolar controllers worth mentioning is that they will initiate charging even if the battery has a reading of zero volts. For Li-Ion batteries, the controller will reconnect to a fully discharged battery with an integrated disconnect function.

Communication and Monitoring Options

All the SmartSolar charge controllers are Bluetooth enabled, allowing you wirelessly set up, monitor, update, and sync your controllers. Synchronize up to 10 SmartSolar charge controllers via Bluetooth. Use the VE.Direct port for a wired data connection to a GX display, PC, or other devices. 

The internal temperature sensor compensates for temperature during the absorption and float charging. Use an optional Smart Battery Sense (part no. SBS050150200) or a BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor (part no. BAM030712000) to communicate battery voltage and temperature to one or more SmartSolar charge controllers.

An optional SmartSolar Pluggable Display (part no. SCC900650010) is available for permanent or periodic use with your SmartSolar charger. The display replaces the rubber seal in the front face of your SmartSolar charge controller. The LCD shows the status of your solar panels and battery, while the push buttons allow you to configure your SmartSolar charger.

When to Use VE.Can SmartSolar Charge Controllers

We recommend using VE.Can models for large solar arrays requiring multiple MPPT charge controllers. With VE.Can communication all controllers in the system are daisy-chained to each other with an RJ45 cable (off-the-shelf RJ45 cables are acceptable, VE.Direct cables not required). Connect your GX monitor or GX device to the last controller in the chain with an RJ45 cable to communicate with all the VE.Can controllers.

VE.Can communication is suitable for longer runs than the VE.Direct, allowing you to mount your charger controllers further away from your Cerbo GX
