The SmartShunt from Victron Energy is a Bluetooth-enabled battery monitor without a display; through the VictronConnect app, you will use your phone or a tablet as the display. You will have access to the battery’s state of charge (SOC), system status, historical data, and more.
The SmarShunt has a VE.Direct port, which can also transmit the data to a GX device such as the Cerbo.
The SmartShunt is an excellent alternative to the BMV-712 Smart battery monitor when your system does not need a permanent display.
The SmartShunt features a connection to monitor a second battery, a bank’s midpoint connection, or a battery monitor. Depending on your installation, some of the following accessories (sold separately) might be required:
- Temperature Sensor for BMV – to measure the battery temperature.
- GX Device -such as a Cerbo GX, for system and remote monitoring.
- VE.Direct Cable – to connect the battery monitor to a GX device.
- VE.Direct to USB interface – to connect the battery monitor to a GX device or the VictronConnect app via USB.
About Victron’s BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor
An Alternative To The SmarShunt
The Victron Energy BMV-712 Smart is a high-precision battery monitor. It has built-in Bluetooth to communicate wirelessly with other Victron products in your system. It calculates amp-hours consumed and your battery’s state of charge (SOC).
The BMV-712 Smart battery monitor features a second input that can be programmed to measure the voltage of a secondary battery, battery temperature using the temperature sensor (sold separately), or midpoint voltage.
The BMV monitors come with a square bezel overlay, a ring bracket for rear mounting, and screws for front mounting. It can be mounted on a panel with a 52mm (2.0 inch) opening or one of Victron’s optional wall enclosures.
A 500A/50mV shunt, fitted with a quick connect PCB is part of the BMV. Alternatives shunts are available: 1000A-50mV, 2000A-50mV, 6000A-50mV. All BMV monitors come with a 10m 6 core UTP cable with RJ12 connectors and a power supply cable with fuse.
